Adult Formation

Adult Bible Study Groups

Mission:

To bring people to a greater understanding of the Bible, an awareness of God’s living presence in Scripture, and an appreciation of how the Bible can be applied to daily life. To foster love and knowledge of the Bible so that we may better understand the Mass, the Sacraments, the Church, and Christ himself.

Activities:

This study consists of personal study of Scripture, small group sharing, personal and shared prayer several days a week in the morning and evening. A variety of studies are available by different Scripture teachers and experts (e.g. Catholic Sacred Scripture Study, Little Rock Scripture Stud, Jeff Cavins, Fr. Robert Barron, and Scott Hahn).

Studies range from 4 to 24 weeks in duration with various meetings times throughout the week:

Generations of Faith

Mission:

To provide a retreat-like inter-generational Catholic formation in specific teachings of the Church in a rich social atmosphere with fellow parishioners.

Activities:

Meets third Sunday of October and fourth Sunday of April.

  • 5:00 - 5:45 p.m. - Dinner in Gym
  • 6:00 - 6:50 p.m. - Presentation in church and breakout sessions for K-5th grades
  • 7:00 p.m. - Prayer service in church led by the children.

God Squad

Mission:

To develop and increase spiritual disciplines during Lent through friendship, sacrifice, prayer, liturgy, and indulgences.

Activities:

Meets Ash Wednesday through Holy Saturday, 8:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the church and includes Evening Prayer, rotating Plenary Indulgences, and devotions.

Harvest House

Mission:

To provide senior adults an opportunity to meet monthly for prayer, service, recreation, celebration, and socializing with fellow parishioners.

Activities:

Meets on third Thursday of each month, September through June. Programs include speakers, Holy Hours, picnics, dinners, day trips, healing services, and diocesan tours.

Men's Prayer Group

Mission:

Men in the parish gather to pray and discuss various writings and teaching of the Bible.

Activities:

Meets on Wednesday mornings at 6:30 a.m.

Parish Retreat - ACTS

Mission:

ACTS retreats are active in more than 600 parishes in six countries. They enrich our faith, and help us grow in spiritual strength and joy. These retreats are for adults of all ages, whether new converts, RCIA candidates, or cradle Catholics. The warm, faithful, welcoming environment supports and teaches all of us wherever we are in our faith. We all grow; and with this, the spiritual life of the parish community grows.

Activities:

These are off-site retreats that begin Thursday evening and continue through Sunday afternoon. Separate retreats for men and women are held every six to eight months. Retreats include the sacraments, group activities, talks by parishioners, and discussions.

Parish Retreat - Ignite

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults/Children (RCIA / RCIC)

R.C.I.A. / R.C.I.C. is the process by which one becomes a full member of the Catholic Church. This is intended for non-Baptized (candidate), Baptized Christian (catechumen), and un-catechized Catholics to fully enter into the Catholic Church. Sessions are offered in the winter (September through April) and summer (April through October).

Mission:

To welcome inquirers who may choose to become Catholic and to assist returning Catholics who desire to receive the Sacraments as the search for deeper relationship with God in the Catholic Church

Activities:

Meets weekly 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. in Clare Hall. Classes follow a curriculum of formation in the basic teachings of the Catholic faith aimed at a fruitful reception of the Sacrament of Initiation. Candidates also meet for 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass for Breaking Open of the Word. Each person is assigned a sponsor and a prayer sponsor. Participants also personally meet with a priest to discuss conversion and vocational / marital history.

Young Adults Gathering

Mission:

To be a dynamic and visible community of young adults as missionary disciples of Jesus and members of his Church. This groups serves adults age 24 to 40, single or married.

Activities:

Meets fourth Wednesday of the month from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for a half-hour presentation by a priest, half-hour group discussion, and ending with socialization.
