8th Grade Parents & Students

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

This is the time of year when our focus begins transitioning your student to high school.  It is amazing how quickly the years have gone!  This email contains key information that has been shared with your child, however, we want to make sure that you are fully aware of this information, as well.

ACT Aspire:

The ACT Aspire is the placement test that is required for admittance to Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.  This test will be given at St. Francis on Nov. 28th and 29th.  Please make every effort to have your child at school on these days. Student cannot be pulled out of testing for any reason including prescheduled appointments or trips.  Make-up tests are done sparingly and must be completed by Dec. 1st.  Students will find the ACT Aspire test is similar to the NWEA MAP or State Assessment tests.  The biggest difference is the ACT Aspire is a timed test, so students need to pace themselves in order to complete all of the questions.  If you feel your child would benefit from practice sessions, please use the following link to access the ACT Exemplar Items Practice Tests:

Weblink to ACT Exemplar Item Practice Tests:

Practice tests are available for each content area we will test with the ACT Aspire.  These practice tests will allow students the ability to experience the format of the test items.    The exemplar items allow the students to see the tool bar so they will know how to advance to the next question and bookmark questions that they would like to review before ending the test.

The following are the usernames and passwords for the specific content areas:

Stewardship Renewal Paperwork:

Each family’s Stewardship Renewal packet was mailed to your home.  This packet must be completed and returned by Sunday, Nov. 19th.  This packet is personalized and contains many important documents that must be signed and returned.  Please review this packet carefully.  Contact the parish office if you have any questions.

Letter to Pastor:

Students must submit a “Letter of Application Essay” to their parish Pastor, per Diocesan High School Admission Procedures.  This letter is due to Fr. Jarrod Lies by Thursday, Dec. 7th.  Miss Piccini will help students create drafts of this letter during her class, however, it is the students’ responsibility to make sure it is received by the deadline.

Pastoral Address on Stewardship:

Each 8th grader and one parent must attend Fr. Jarrod’s talk titled: Weights and Measures on Dec. 3rd at 2:00 or Dec. 5th at 7:00.  Both sessions will be held in the church.  Attendance will be taken.

Parish Family Agreement:

Each family must submit a Parish Family Agreement with their Stewardship Renewal paperwork or when they attend Fr. Jarrod’s Pastoral Address on Stewardship: Weights and Measures.  Please carefully consider this agreement before signing.  It is important that your family honors this agreement and remains committed to the Stewardship Way of Life.

Class of 2022 application due to President:

A non-refundable application fee of $150.00 is due to Bishop Carroll High School by Friday, Jan. 5, 2018.

Catholic Grade School Recommendation:

This rubric is completed for each of our 8th grade students.  It is due to the Catholic School Office by Jan. 29, 2018.  As a reminder, the four areas that will be assessed are: Attitude Towards the Catholic Faith, Academic Effort, Christian Behavior, and Parental Cooperation.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding this process.

With you in Christ,

Mary Carter, Principal
