Parish Nurse Ministry
Mission StatementTo provide a ministry to assist members of the parish family with their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being through health counseling and education, and as a liaison to community services.History of Parish NurseThe Parish Nurse organization for St. Francis of Assisi was brought about in 1993 by 8 nurses forming a board and developing the ground work for the organization. These volunteers and others worked for the next 6 years accomplishing many goals. In the fall of 1999 St. Francis of Assisi added a full-time parish nurse to its staff. What is a Parish Nurse?Parish nurses are registered nurses who have made a stewardship commitment of their time and professional talents to help fellow parishioners.Combining the concepts of preventive medicine and wellness, the parish nurse program advocates self responsibility and participation in one's own health care. Parish Nursing is anchored in the spiritual needs of parishioners and uses the holistic concept of wellness, mind and soul as its model, making Christ's love known in our nursing and our parish.
