
A Pilgrimage through Kansas to 20 Beautiful Churches
April 28 to May 3, 2025
Village Travel, in partnership with Fr. Jarrod Lies of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, is excited to announce the Churches of Kansas Tour, a six-day spiritual pilgrimage exploring the beauty and history of 20 remarkable Catholic churches across the state. This tour is open to the public and will take place from April 28 to May 3, 2025, offering participants an opportunity to experience daily Mass, guided church tours, and additional cultural and historical stops along the way.
This unique pilgrimage will take travelers through Pittsburgh, Overland Park, Manhattan, Hays, and other historic locations, visiting churches such as St. Patrick’s in Parsons, Sacred Heart in Mound City, and the breathtaking Holy Cross Church in Pfeifer, a recognized Wonder of Kansas Architecture. Alongside these spiritual sites, attendees will explore landmarks such as the Orphan Train Museum and the dramatic Niobrara chalk formations at Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park.

Day 1: Pittsburgh, KS
Let’s hit the road today for a six-day pilgrimage to see some of our state’s most historic Catholic churches and interesting attractions. We’ll visit our first church and enjoy a private Mass & tour of St. Patrick’s in Parsons. Visit the museum for the largest electric shovel in the world, Big Brutus! Our second church visit today is Sacred Heart in Frontenac, Kansas followed by dinner as a group.
Day 2: Overland Park, KS
Start the day by joining the Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes followed by a tour of the beautiful parish. Next we’ll enjoy a tour of Sacred Heart in Mound City. Then we’ll make our way to Kansas City to visit the Cathedral of St. Peter. Tonight will be a fun treat with dinner and a show when we see “Jersey Boys” at the New Theatre in Kansas City. This Tony Award-winning musical tells the rags-to-riches journey of Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, and
Nick Massi. Set to the heart-pounding sounds of their iconic group The Four Seasons, with music that defined a generation—hits like “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like A Man,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”.
Day 3: Manhattan, KS
Begin today with a tour and Mass at St Patrick’s Parish in Atchison Kansas. Then we will enjoy lunch together followed by some freetime in Seneca KS. We will attend public Mass with the Benedictine monks from St. Benedicts Parish followed by an included tour of Benedictine College parish and abbey. Enjoy dinner tonight in Manhattan together.
Day 4: Hays, KS
We’ve reached the halfway point and will start our day with a special private Mass & tour at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Concordia. Next on the agenda is a visit to the Orphan Train Museum to learn the curious history of the Orphan Train which began in 1854 and carried orphaned and destitute children and impoverished adults from the east coast into the West to find a new life. This resettlement system continued through the Civil War and World War I. Tour St John the Baptist parish in Beloit Kansas. Tonight we’re in for a special treat with a catered group dinner and a tour of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Day 5 : Hays, KS
Today, we have a full day of tours of some of the many beautiful Kansas churches. St. Francis in Munjor, St. Joseph in Hays, St. Anthony in Schoenchen, Mass at Holy Cross Church in Pfeifer (one of the eight wonders of Kansas Architecture). Also, St. Fidelis in Victoria, St. Catherine, and St Joseph in Damar.
Day 6 :Home
Today is the final day of our adventure, but the fun isn’t over yet. As we head back home, we’ll visit St. Mary’s of Ellis, then explore Kansas’ most dramatic Niobrara chalk formations and hopefully some of the natural wildlife and flora at Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park. We’ll have a boxed lunch at the park today and then hit the road and stop off at Sacred Heart in Dodge City for a tour followed by public Mass and a tour at Cathedral of our Lady Guadalupe. Enjoy a quick included dinner before we head home for a late evening arrival!
