On the weekend of June 5-6, 2021, Bishop Kemme will lift the general dispensation from Sunday Mass for the laity in the Diocese of Wichita. This date is the Feast of Corpus Christi, the Body and Blood of Christ.
The current restrictions and guidelines for social distancing will stay in place so as to help the people who do come to Mass feel as safe as possible.
“[For] Catholics, Sunday Mass is not only an obligation but a great privilege and should never be missed without good reason,” the bishop wrote in his announcement. “The Church places such great emphasis on the Sunday celebration of the Mass as our spiritual nourishment that she obliges us to be present, unless we have a legitimate reason for being absent. We should all take to heart the Church’s directives for us in this regard.”
He continued, “I invite, encourage and request the faithful, who are able and well and who have not already done so, to make their way back to in-person participation in the Sunday celebration of the Mass.”
