Band is offered to students in the 5th through 8th grades as a whole-year course.
Band is a great activity to be a part of -- you learn new skills, meet new friends, and build cognitive skills that have been proven to help across the board in all classes. Looking farther down the road, the opportunities for performances in high school and scholarships for college are endless.
The 5th grade band meets during the school day and has a few concerts throughout the year. Every 5th grade student tried out on instruments at the end of their 4th grade year. If you are new or would like to try out instruments again please arrange a time ASAP. By having the try-outs at the end of the year in 4th grade we hope to start playing in band right away when school starts. Instruments should be ready to play the first day of school, although if it takes some more time, exceptions can be made and a student’s grade will not be marked down.
The 6th grade band will meet as a full band from 2:10 to 2:40 p.m. every day. Students will continue to use the Essential Elements series, finishing Book 1 (yellow) and moving to Book 2 (red) after Christmas.
The 7th and 8th grade bands meet together each day during CE time. CE allows for both band and choir enrollment. Students will continue to use the Essential Elements series.
If you are a returning band student, please make sure that your instrument is in working order now! The repair shops are busy this time of the year. If you are looking to upgrade your beginner instrument, you are encouraged to purchase an instrument from a local professional company to ensure quality:
